Frequently Asked Questions
The accessories you need will depend on your CPAP machine and personal comfort preferences. Common essentials include:
CPAP tubing (standard or heated) to connect your mask to the machine.
Filters to keep the air clean and free of dust and allergens.
Water chambers for use with the built-in humidifier on your machine.
Humidifiers to add moisture and prevent dryness during therapy.
CPAP bags and cases for safe storage and travel.
Always check your machine's compatibility before purchasing replacement accessories.
Standard tubes are lightweight, flexible hoses that deliver air from your CPAP machine to your mask. They are compatible with most machines and are a straightforward, cost-effective option.
Heated tubes contain a built-in heating element that warms the air as it travels from the machine to your mask. This helps prevent condensation (commonly known as rainout) from building up inside the tubing, especially in cooler environments.
If you frequently experience moisture in your tubing or prefer warmer, more comfortable airflow, a heated tube is recommended. Check your machine's specifications to ensure compatibility, as heated tubes are designed for specific models.
A CPAP humidifier adds moisture to the pressurised air delivered by your machine. This helps prevent common side effects such as a dry nose, dry throat, nasal congestion and irritation.
Many modern CPAP machines come with a built-in humidifier, while others offer a detachable humidifier unit that can be added separately.
If you live in a dry climate, use air conditioning or heating regularly, or experience dryness and discomfort during therapy, a humidifier can significantly improve your comfort and compliance.
CPAP water chambers should be replaced approximately every 6 months, or sooner if you notice cracks, discolouration, mineral build-up or a persistent odour that does not go away after cleaning.
To prolong the life of your water chamber, use distilled or demineralised water and clean it regularly with warm water and mild soap. Avoid using tap water as it can cause mineral deposits to form over time.
CPAP machines typically use two types of filters.
Standard filters (non-disposable): rinse with water every two weeks and replace every 6 months, or when they appear worn or discoloured.
Fine/hypoallergenic filters (disposable): replace every 1 to 3 months. These cannot be washed and must be discarded once dirty.
Regular filter replacement ensures you are breathing clean air and helps maintain your machine's performance. If you have allergies or pets, you may need to replace filters more frequently.
Daily: empty and rinse the water chamber. Hang your tubing to air dry.
Weekly: wash the water chamber and tubing in warm water with mild soap. Use a tube brush to gently scrub the inside of the hose. Rinse thoroughly and allow all parts to air dry completely before reassembling.
Avoid harsh chemicals, alcohol-based cleaners or dishwashers, as these may damage the silicone and plastic components.
A CPAP travel bag is highly recommended if you travel regularly with your machine. Purpose-built bags and cases offer padded protection, dedicated compartments for your machine, mask, tubing and accessories, and are designed to meet airline carry-on requirements.
Even for home storage, a CPAP bag can help keep your equipment organised, clean and protected from dust when not in use.
Some accessories are universal while others are designed for specific machines.
Standard tubing with a 22mm connector fits most CPAP machines.
Heated tubing, water chambers and filters are typically machine-specific and must match your exact model. For example, a ResMed AirSense 11 water chamber is not interchangeable with a ResMed AirSense 10.
CPAP bags, chin straps and tube brushes are generally universal and work with any setup.
Always check compatibility on the product page or contact our team if you are unsure which accessories suit your machine.
No. CPAP accessories and replacement parts such as tubing, filters, water chambers, humidifiers and travel bags do not require a prescription.
